Turn every card drawn into a weapon with an Esper combo deck that drains opponents while building a powerful hand and life total. Premium draw engines, efficient tutors, and protective interaction support explosive finishes through Queza, Thassa’s Oracle, or Aetherflux Reservoir.
Game plan: Develop your mana early, establish a draw engine, and keep interaction available while assembling a protected finish. Rhystic Study, Mystic Remora, Esper Sentinel, and The One Ring provide sustained cards, while your tutors find whichever engine, protection spell, or combo piece the situation requires. Drawing becomes draining: Queza triggers separately for every card you draw, making Brainstorm, Windfall, and Tolarian Winds potential bursts of life loss. Teferi’s Ageless Insight and Alhammarret’s Archive multiply most draws, with Archive also doubling your life gain. Psychosis Crawler spreads the pressure across every opponent, while Sheoldred rewards your draws and punishes theirs. Wheels and disruption: Windfall and Echo of Eons become particularly punishing alongside Sheoldred or Orcish Bowmasters. Notion Thief instead replaces opponents’ eligible draws with your own, producing more Queza triggers while denying them fresh hands. Those replaced draws do not trigger Sheoldred’s opponent-draw ability or Bowmasters, so choose the interaction that best fits your board. Queza’s draw loops: With Queza and either Drogskol Reaver or Lich’s Mastery in play, drawing a card starts a repeating sequence of drawing, draining, and gaining life. These triggers are mandatory: Reaver can make you deck yourself before eliminating everyone, so have Laboratory Maniac already in play or another way to interrupt the sequence. Lich’s Mastery prevents you from losing to an empty library while it remains, but does not itself win the game—and its departure causes you to lose. Queza combo reference, Lich’s Mastery. Alternative finishes: Resolve Thassa’s Oracle, then respond to its triggered ability with Demonic Consultation, naming a card absent from your deck to exile your library. Bolas’s Citadel, Sensei’s Divining Top, and Aetherflux Reservoir provide another route: tap Top to draw and place it on your library, recast it through Citadel, and repeat while cards remain to build spell count and life for Reservoir activations. Thassa’s Oracle, Demonic Consultation. Protecting the turn: Silence and Grand Abolisher create openings to commit, backed by free counters and efficient interaction. Entomb, Reanimate, Animate Dead, and your tutors help recover disrupted creature engines or pivot to a different finish.
