At least Bracket 3 (Upgraded) ·
Classic Atraxa +1/+1 counters: ramp her out early, stack counters on your creatures, planeswalkers, and artifacts, then let her free end-step proliferate snowball the whole board at once. Win with unblockable beats from Herald of Secret Streams, a Kalonian Hydra double-up, a lethal Walking Ballista, or the quiet Simic Ascendancy alt-win.
GAME PLAN Spend turns 1–3 on ramp and color fixing, land Atraxa turn 3–4, then deploy counter engines. From there every end step proliferates: creatures grow, planeswalkers tick toward ultimates, Everflowing Chalice and Gyre Sage make extra mana, and Simic Ascendancy creeps toward its 20-counter win. WHAT TO KEEP Mulligan for 3 lands (or 2 plus a green ramp spell) and at least one cheap engine or draw piece. You need all four colors by turn 4 — tri-lands are gold, and Farseek / Nature's Lore can fetch the Triomes. HOW IT WINS 1. Combat: Herald of Secret Streams makes countered creatures unblockable, Abzan Falconer grants flying, Champion of Lambholt shuts off blocks, and Kalonian Hydra doubles the whole team every swing. 2. Walking Ballista: with Hardened Scales / Winding Constrictor / doublers it turns spare mana into a machine gun. 3. Simic Ascendancy: wins on its own through proliferate — protect it once it passes ~14 growth counters. KEY SYNERGIES - Deepglow Skate doubles counters on any permanents when it enters — planeswalkers included; it frequently ultimates Teferi on the spot. - Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider doubles everything you add and halves what opponents get. - Hangarback Walker and Walking Ballista love your three board wipes: dump counters in, wipe, rebuild. - Contagion Clasp, Contagion Engine, and Karn's Bastion proliferate without spending cards; Evolution Sage turns land drops into proliferates, Flux Channeler does it for noncreature spells. - Cathars' Crusade grows the team on every creature ETB. PILOTING TIPS - Deploy proliferate engines before payoffs when the choice is close. - Hold Counterspell / Swan Song for board wipes and game-ending spells, not early value. - Austere Command is usually one-sided if you pick modes carefully (your artifacts are mostly cheap rocks). - Inspiring Call is best used in response to a wipe — it protects and draws. WEAKNESSES Slow starts without ramp, repeated exile on Atraxa, and stax pieces that tax ETBs or counters. Only two counterspells, so respect fast combo tables. POWER LEVEL Upgraded-precon-plus, roughly bracket 3. Game Changers included: Rhystic Study, Smothering Tithe, Farewell. UPGRADE PATH Doubling Season → The Ozolith → Toxic Deluge (over Wrath of God) → Teferi's Protection (over Heroic Intervention) → Esper Sentinel → fetches/shocks.
