Bracket 3 or 4 — six combos are the owner's call ·
Turn card draw into pinpoint damage while every player's instants and sorceries keep Niv-Mizzet supplied with cards. Control the table with efficient interaction, then finish through accumulated spell damage or a Curiosity-style draw-and-damage loop.
Opening plan: Keep a hand that can develop both blue and red mana with acceleration. Niv-Mizzet requires three blue and three red mana; Sol Ring cannot pay those colored symbols directly, but it can help cast fixing rocks or pay later commander tax. Chromatic Lantern and your dual lands make the six-mana requirement manageable. Normal play: Niv-Mizzet triggers when any player casts an instant or sorcery, and each card you draw produces a separate one-damage trigger. Use that damage to remove small creatures or pressure opponents; Archmage Emeritus, token makers, and spell-damage creatures provide value before your commander is available. Combo finish: Enchant Niv-Mizzet with Curiosity or Ophidian Eye, or pair him with Tandem Lookout. Start with a draw or a point of damage to an opponent; his damage then offers another draw, which creates another damage trigger. These draw abilities are optional, so you can stop, and the cards remaining in your library limit the damage available from this loop. Interaction window: Removing Niv-Mizzet or the attached Aura, breaking the soulbond, or preventing the relevant damage can interrupt the engine. Hold protection and a counterspell before committing, and remember that being uncounterable does not protect Niv-Mizzet from removal once he resolves.
